Dorothy Koomson is back with another cracker of a story that really hooked my attention during the Easter holidays.

The story is written through the narrative of journalist Pieta Rawlings and Detective Inspector Jody Foster as they both follow the case of The Blindfolder. A man who kidnaps women and threatens that if they open their eyes, he will kill them. Many years after the attacks, he’s now back claiming the lives of his original victim and DI Foster has been brought in to stop him, unknown to her colleagues, this case means more to her than anyone knows.

Pieta survived her attacked from The Blindfolder, but not a day goes by that she doesn’t think of the nightmare that she experienced. Now a single parent to her son Kodi, the last thing that she wants to be doing is interviewing a victim of The Blindfolder and reliving the nightmare all over again, but when Callie places her trust in Pieta to tell her story, Pieta has no choice but to help with the case.

Like Dorothy’s previous books, this story is a fast paced drama that really hooks the reader in. Both Jody and Pieta, are strong, independent characters who have secrets to hide that are the driving forces behind them catching The Blindfolder. The story is written in past and present tenses and takes the reader back to the moment when Pieta was captured and the torment that she experienced over those terrible days. These scenes make for intense and claustrophobic reading, as Pieta fights for survival.

I really liked Pieta, she’s a remarkable woman who dresses flamboyantly to embrace life much to the annoyance of her little boy, she’s a forgiving and gracious woman, who even though is putting her own life at risk to help others. As she and DI Foster race against time to prevent another killing from happening.

This story is so cunningly written and there’s new twists and drama on every page. At one point, I was convinced that I’d solved it all, only to discover that I was totally wrong, now that’s truly the sign of a great thriller!

A stunningly dramatic and intense story that really pulled me in, with fantastic characters and an unpredictable plot line, ‘Tell Me Your Secret’ is an addictive story that will have you racing through the pages!

The Brighton Mermaid By Dorothy Koomson

Nell is still struggling to move on when, three weeks later, Jude disappears. Twenty-five years on, Nell is forced to quit her job to find out who the Brighton Mermaid really was – and what happened to her best friend that summer. But as Nell edges closer to the truth, dangerous things start to happen. Someone seems to be watching her every move, and soon she starts to wonder who in her life she can actually trust.

After stumbling upon a dead woman on the beach who later became known as the ‘Brighton Mermaid’, Jude and Macy haven’t been able to move on from the appearance of the mysterious woman that no one knows. Obsessed with the ‘Brighton Mermaid’, Jude suddenly disappears one day and Macy’s father becomes the prime suspect in the case, even though he maintains his innocence. For years, Macy’s family is tortured, particularly by one detective who is convinced that he is guilty.

Years later and often wondering about what happened to her best friend and the young woman on the beach, Macy decides to commit her full time to finding people and helping people track long lost family. But, when she decides to investigate the case, finds herself and those around her in jeopardy.

When it comes to Dorothy, she knows how to write a clever thriller with strong heroines and suspense riddled throughout. Like her previous novels, this book is written in the past and present tense and is seen solely through the narrative of Macy and her older sister Nell. Even though the pair of them are close and have been there for each other during the difficult times, there’s an underlying tension between them. Nell has never fully forgiven Macy for discovering the ‘Brighton Mermaid’ and for bringing so much trouble and heartache to their door. Macy has never gotten over the loss of her best friend and often wonders what she could have done differently.

The chapters of the book are short and tense, so it’s easy to get absorbed in one sitting. Both women are independent and complex characters with hidden secrets that could potentially pull the pair of them apart. I loved Macy, she had a strong spirit and sense of humour that immediately made me warm to her. Suspenseful and full of paranoia through, ‘The Brighton Mermaid’ is a simmering and intensive read about obsession and relationships, where nothing is what it seems particularly when it comes to families.

Dorothy Koomson Reveals New Book – When I Was Invisible

When I Was InvisibleDorothy is returning to our bookshelves in 2016 with her new book called ‘When I Was Invisible’. The story of ‘When I Was Invisible’ is –

I’ve read a couple of Dorothy’s books and they make for enjoyable and intriguing reading and ‘When I Was Invisible’ sounds just as gripping.
