All My Friends Are Superheroes by Andrew Kaufman

All My Friends Are Superheroes

“All My Friends Are Superheroes” is a wonderful quirky book by Andrew Kaufman that is so short and sweet, that I read it in one sitting.

The story is based around Tom and like the story is titled, all his friends are superheroes, he is even marrying a superhero but he is just a regular guy. On his wedding day to The Perfectionist, her ex Hypno hypnotises her into believing that Tom is invisible to her. No matter how hard he tries, nothing makes her see him.

So after six months of waiting for Tom to reappear, the Perfectionist comes to the conclusion that Tom has abandoned her and she has to get over her heartbreak. She decides to relocate to Vancouver and with her special superpower, this will help her get over the sorrow.

Unknown to her, Tom has also purchased a ticket to Vancouver, but unlike The Perfectionist, his ticket is a return. He has the flight journey to convince her that he is real, or else he will have to say goodbye to the love of his life.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. The superheroes were unique with their powers. At times, their powers seemed more unfortunate than super. I enjoyed the complicated relationship of Tom and The Perfectionist as he tries to prove his existence to her, whilst she continues to ignore him. I also quite enjoyed Hypno, the bad guy in the book and also The Perfectionist’s ex. Whose superpower is to hypnotise people and seems unable to get over The Perfectionist and wants no-one else to have her, especially Tom.

“All My Friends Are Superheroes” is a lovely unique tale, that goes to show that the path of true love never runs smoothly.
