Breathless by Dean Kootnz
Breathless is by Dean Kootnz, one of my favourite authors and tells the tale of Grady Adams, who happens to be resting at home one evening when his Irish Wolfhound, Merlin alerts him of something in the garden. When Grady investigates further, he discovers two magical creatures that he has never seen before in his whole entire life. With doglike behaviour but with human attributes, the creatures are a mystery to him so he decides to contact local vet Cammy Rivers to ask her opinion. Immediately on arrival, she too is confused and stunned at the mysterious creatures beforeher and contacts colleagues to ask of their help but before they know it, Homeland Security has arrived and taken control of the situation, as they believe that the creatures are a threat to the world. Determined to prove them wrong, Grady and Cammy look to take back control and prevent the creatures from being destroyed and possibly the end of civilization.
I loved this story and the eerieness that surrounded it, particularly when are the creatures are being described and the new discoveries that they find with them. I particularly enjoyed the smaller sub stories throughout the story and how they all nicely came together at the end.
A beautifully written story full of mystery and hope.
