[amazon_link id=”0751551805″ target=”_blank” ][/amazon_link]’Christmas at Rosie Hopkins’ Sweet Shop’ is a standalone sequel to ‘Welcome to Rosie Hopkins’ Sweetshop of Dreams’ by Jenny Colgan.
Rosie Hopkins is looking forward to Christmas in the little Derbyshire village of Lipton, buried under a thick blanket of snow. Her sweetshop is festooned with striped candy canes, large tempting piles of Turkish Delight, crinkling selection boxes and happy sticky children. She’s going to be spending it with her boyfriend, Stephen and her family are flying in from Australia. She can’t wait!
But when a tragedy strikes at the heart of their little community, all of Rosie’s plans for the future seem to be blown apart. Can she build a life in Lipton? And is what’s the best for the sweetshop also what’s best for Rosie?
I must admit I was delighted when I heard that Jenny was going to return to my favourite literary sweetshop in her latest book and I really did enjoy Rosie’s most recent adventure.
Not only returning to our favourite sweetshop, we see the return of our favourite regulars, handsome and moody Stephen, wise old owl Lillian and sharp tongued Hetty. All of our favourite characters that had us smiling from the start and of course there is kind hearted and sweet Rosie, who keeps the small village content with her constant supply of confectionary.
But when a lorry crashes into the local primary school, the people all come together to help children and parents to help each other out in this time of crisis with Rosie as the leader. Not only having to deal with the aftermath of the school collision, Rosie has to deal with one of her best customers being seriously injured in the accident and the idea of her whole family flying in for Christmas suddenly feels her with dread. Her first Christmas with Stephen does not seem to be going to plan.
As per usual with Jenny’s previous books, she has delivered another heartwarming and captivating story that is ideal to snuggle up with. With a host of wonderful characters and lovely small stories that interweave cleverly and sweetly together, this is a poignant and a beautifully written festive book packed with sweet-toothed recipes that is perfect to get you into the Christmas mood.
