I was lucky that I was reading ‘Christmas Carol’ during a long, monotonous bus journey and this short tale provided a welcome distraction from the outside world. Snuggled up in my winter woolies, I was enthralled with this warmhearted seasonal tale.

The leading lady of the story is Carol, a strong business woman, who doesn’t feel complete unless her Blackberry is in her hand. Landed with the role of being her sisters bridesmaid, she doesn’t enjoy feeling out of control, no longer part of the business world but residing in a snow covered manor, with three of her ex boyfriends there to keep her company.

As each boyfriend reappears in her life like the ghosts of Christmas past, they remind Carol of her previous relationships, just how drastically they went wrong and bringing back unhappy memories. I enjoyed Carol with her hard and cynical view on life and love, she has been hurt enough times to question whether love really exists and always had a sharp comment, when someone appeared overly emotional at the wedding. I also loved her Granny, she was a fabulous character, although she was confined to a wheelchair, her mouth ran wild, regularly insulting family members with her cutting manner, she was wonderful!

‘Christmas Carol’ is the perfect story to curl up to, with the added twist from the Charles Dickens story, it is a wonderful story that will have chuckling at the funny scenarios, Carol’s mishaps and sarcasm and sighing at the romance of it all. The perfect short Christmas tale that will make you feel all lovely inside!
