Do No Harm By Jack Jordan
‘Do No Harm’ is the latest book by Jack Jordan.
The man lies on the table in front of me. As a surgeon, it’s my job to save him. As a mother, I know I must kill him. You might think that I’m a monster. But there really is only one choice. I must get away with murder. Or I will never see my son again.
Today is the paperback publication day of ‘Do No Harm’ and boy this book is one hell of a rollercoaster! I initially intended to read only the first five chapters but suddenly I was twenty-five chapters and reluctantly having to put it down for bed.
This book has all the makings of a fantastic thriller, a combination of complex characters, who are both relatable and dislikable and a complex fast paced plot that has twists at every turn and with short chapters that left the reading hungry for more.
The story is seen primarily through the eyes of Dr. Anna Jones, a successful heart surgeon who’s son is taken from her and she’s been told that the only guarantee of his safe return is if she kills one of her patients. A battle of morals commences but she knows that this is the only way her son can be returned. Margot is Anna’s surgery assistant who’s life is getting constantly worse, with little money, in debt and now pregnant, she’s taken to stealing from her colleagues to make ends meet but when she’s caught, she finds another way to make money. And finally Inspector Rachel Conaty, who’s investigating the case of Anna’s murdered neighbour who was looking after Anna’s son, she’s convinced that something has happened to the little boy but Anna declares that Zach is safe with his uncle, as she been told not to say a thing or less he will die. Having lost her own little boy, Racheal is convinced that something bad is afoot even though her team are against her.
The characters in this story are fantastic, both Anna and Margot are such horrible characters, ruthless and out for themselves, but as a reader, you can’t help but warn to them, as it’s their maternal instincts that is leading them and the same goes for Rachel, she’s never recovered from her son’s disappearance and blames herself that she couldn’t have prevented it.
The story is a combination of police procedure with medical, and it’s amazing the amount of research the author has gone to for this story.
Fast paced, gritty and just brimming with tension and suspense, ‘Do No Harm’ is an amazing thriller that was literally IMPOSSIBLE to put down, packed with drama and gripping characters, how this book hasn’t been adapted is beyond me.
You can buy ‘Do No Harm’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.
