Girls Don’t Cry By Peter Kesterton
‘Girls Don’t Cry’ is the latest book by Peter Kesterton.
A decade after his young daughter’s murder, a grief-stricken father’s need for justice puts his own life in danger as events spiral out of control. Ever since Caitlin Grady was released from prison, Darren has been tormented by rage and injustice. He finds himself venting online, where a stranger befriends him—and encourages him to seek revenge. But Caitlin no longer goes by that name. She has been given a new identity and is living quietly, dreading exposure as the tabloids—with help from her publicity-hungry mother—try to hunt her down. And having committed the crime at age eleven, Caitlin struggles as an adult on her own, out in the world beyond prison walls. Will Darren manage to track Caitlin down, and if he does, will he be able to carry out his plans?
you like gripping psychological thrillers seen from dual narratives then this book is just for you.
Seen from the narrative of father Darren, whose life falls apart when his little girl is murdered only for years later, her killer is set free and about to start her life with a new identity. Anna has done time for her crime and is determined to start afresh but even though she wants to move on, Darren is finding it impossible to carry on with his life when his daughter’s killer is walking free.
This book is a real conflicting battle of morals, as much as you want to see Anna start afresh and have a normal life, you can’t help but feel against her as she is a child killer. But as the story develops, we begin to see a humane side to Anna and have an empathy towards her. We want her to have her happy ever after but that’s difficult when there’s a witch hunt after her. On the other side of a coin, we also connect with Darren, who’s been plagued with guilt since the death of his little girl Riley, it’s ruined his life and his marriage. It’s understandable that this has taken over his life and with characters, it’s easy to connect with both of them.
Each chapter alternates between the characters and this adds a fast pace to this cat and mouse tale as Anna tries to run for her life and Darren continues to try and find her.
A story that stirs up all kinds of emotions, ‘Girls Don’t Cry’ is a gripping, dark and a real emotional tale about grief and revenge, which also has a dark and sad undertone to the story that resulted in the death of a child.
