Leave No Trace By Jo Callaghan

‘Leave No Trace’ is the latest book in the DCS Kat Frank and AIDE Lock series by Jo Callaghan.

When the body of a man is found crucified at the top of Mount Judd, AIDE Lock – the world’s first AI Detective – and DCS Kat Frank are thrust into the spotlight as they are given their first live case. But with the discovery of another man’s body – also crucified – it appears that their killer is only just getting started. With the police warning local men to be vigilant, the Future Policing Unit is thrust into a hostile media frenzy as they desperately search for connections between the victims. But time is running out for them to join the dots and prevent another death.

If you like tense, police procedural books, then this book is just for you, throw in the logic and rarionale of a AI police officer and you’re onto a cracking story.

The story is primarily seen through the narrative of DS Kat who’s been called in to investigate her first live case since the death of her husband John and kidnapping of her son Cam. The case is a gruesome one that is not for the fainthearted, as a man is found on a cross with his ears cut off. Kat has to lead the case with the help of Lock, an AI police officer and his input into the story is fascinating. He’s able to process information so much quicker than the traditonal method and helps move the case along faseter, but as well as that, it’s fascinating to see its behaviour and the public’s reaction to it.

I really enjoyed this story, although it’s gory, it’s great reading and gives an insight into the police investigation, autopsy and the interviews, which I always find interesting in stories. There are other perspectives in the book that also tie in nicely with the story. Cleverly written with an intriguing plotline that really pulls the reader in, ‘Leave No Trace’ is a compelling and unsettling book that makes for addictive and dark reading.

You can buy ‘Leave No Trace’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.
