Meet Me At The Cupcake Cafe book cover

Meet Me At The Cupcake Cafe is the delicious new read from British author Jenny Colgan.

After Issy’s mother leaves her as a child with Grampa Joe, he brings her up the best way he knows how, by teaching her how to bake so she can work alongside him in his own chain of bakeries. Issy then grows up with a love for baking and is renowned for her cupcakes and experimental recipes.

But one day, she is made redundant from her city job by Graeme, her boss but also her lover. Seizing the redundancy as an opportunity for greatness, she gathers all the recipes that her grandfather has lovingly passed to her over the years and armed with the support from her friends, she approaches Austin, the quiet, attractive bank manager and applies for a loan to open The Cupcake Cafe.

With no idea what is in store, she opens the doors of the cafe and embarks on an new adventure, filled with new recipes, friends and lots of surprises in store, some great and others not so positive.

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe, is another lovely book from Jenny Colgan, filled with wonderful and funny people, particularly Caroline, a snobby, opinionated yummy mummy who has to work, now her husband has announced he wants an divorce. Her scathing remarks throughout the book thoroughly entertained me but even though the story is quite funny in places, there are elements of sadness as Issy deals with her grandfather’s ailing health.

Another lovely addition to the book, was the cupcake recipes, at the start of each chapter, so not only did the book make me laugh but I found myself ravenous for the duration of the book, teasing me with all the wonderful sweet delights, that I might even have a go at creating myself!
