Never Look Away by Linwood Barclay
Never Look Away is the latest novel from the successful american author Linwood Barclay and it tells the story of small town journalist David Harwood who thinks he has the perfect life with his loving wife, Jan and young son Ethan until one day Jan admits that she been feeling down and that David and Ethan would be better off without her, as she is nothing more than a burden.
Hoping to distract her from her dark thoughts, they arrange a day trip to the new theme park but instead of a day of fun, it turns into a nightmare as Jan disappears from the park, distraught David immediately contacts the police fearing that she may have taken her own life.
But unable to prove that his wife was ever in the park, as there is no CCTV footage, the finger of blames points towards David over the sudden disappearance of Jan.
To prove his innocence, David begins his own investigation and soon discovers that the further he delves into his wife’s life, he realises just how little he knows about her and that maybe he become the victim of a scheming act.
I was quite excited to read this book, as I thoroughly enjoyed No Time For Goodbye, but then the further I got into the book, the more similarities I noticed between the two books, such as the person disappearing and the relative having to prove that the person does exist and how they suddenly become the prime suspect.
Even though the ending had a good twist to it, the similarities kind of dampened my eagerness to finish the book. This may be Linwood’s niche so to speak but its too similiar to say that this was a enjoyable read.
