Room is the latest novel by Emma Donaghue and it tales the story of Ma and five year old Jack who live in an 11 feet by 11 feet room.

To Jack, Room is his life and world, even though he has a television and thinks the characters are his friends, he doesn’t believe that they are real. He thinks only he and Ma are the only people in world until one day, Ma decides to tell him, there is a whole new world outside Room, a world he didn’t even know existed.

The story of Room is told in Jack’s voice and from the child’s perspective of living in one room all his life. At times, the style of writing is endearing and other times it is unsettling as he struggles to understand that they aren’t the only people in the world and the world is not how he thought it was, as Ma explains why they are in Room in the first place.

It truly is an unique novel and is worthy of international attention that it has received as it tells the story of innocence and the unlimited love from both Jack and Ma.
