Nell Sullivan has always been known as ‘Miss Five-Year Plan’. But when she finds herself jobless and single on the same day, Nell decides it is time to stop planning and start taking chances. Nell blows her redundancy cheque on a trip of a lifetime to a place where anything is possible – San Francisco. There she meets a host of colourful characters, including the intriguing and gorgeous Max Rossi and very soon the city begins to feel like Nell’s second home. But when it’s time to return to London, will be she leave the ‘new Nell’ behind? And can the magic of San Francisco continue to sparkle thousands of miles away?

I have only read two of Miranda Dickinson’s books and I have to say that ‘Take A Look At Me Now’ is by far my favourite book by the author and is quite honestly a strong contender to be one of my favourite books of 2013.

Towards the lead up to the release of the book, there was much excitement and activity on Twitter, as Miranda promoted the book with the hashtag #TeamNell throughout the publicity of the book and when I finally got to reading the book, I fully understood why everyone wanted to be on the Nell’s side.

Nell’s life takes a turn for the worst when one day she finds herself redundant in not only a job but also in love. But instead of sitting around moping, Nell sees the redundancy as an opportunity and using her redundancy package, sets off San Francisco to spend eight glorious weeks with her cousin Lizzie. Whilst away on this trip filled with self discovery, tourist spots, gorgeous and artistic men and a cute diner, Nell rediscovers her lust for life and that if you work hard enough, dreams can come true.

What can I say about this book? I absolutely adored it and if the day to day tasks of life hadn’t gotten in the way, than I would have consumed it in one sitting. It was heart warming, funny, clever and most of all I found wonderfully uplifting and inspirational.

Nell, the protagonist of the story was an absolute sweetheart, a normal girl with a strong drive for life and adventure, she was the perfect person to take you around San Francisco and show you the sights. I think I slightly fell for Nell, as a person who longs to one day step on the soil of the city, I envied the sights that she got to see and thoroughly enjoyed accompanying her, as she found her path in life, with the aid of love, adorable children and elderly couples, this book was an enchanting story.

Beautifully written with fun and heartwarming characters, ‘Take A Look At a Me’ is such an enjoyable book, that will warm the cockles of your heart, wonderfully aspirational that will leave you wanting to reach for the stars and accomplish your own dreams and is most definitely the perfect guidebook for a trip to San Francisco.
