The Coincidence Of Callie And Kayden By Jessica Sorensen

[amazon_link id=”0751552607″ target=”_blank” ]The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden[/amazon_link]’The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden’is the latest book by New York Times bestselling author, Jessica Sorensen.

Callie has grown up keeping her feelings locked away from the outside world and as her painful past threatens to consume her life, most days it’s a struggle just to breathe. For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence has been the only way to survive, until one night when Callie and Kayden’s worlds collide. After that moment, Kayden can’t stop thinking about Callie and when they end up at the same college, he does everything in his power her that it isn’t coincidence, it’s fate.

‘The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden’ is the second book that I have read by Jessica Sorenson and just like ‘The Secret of Ella and Micha’ I wholeheartedly fell in love with the characters and the storyline.

The story is seen through alternating chapters between Callie and Kayden as they go off to college and start their new lives, both trying to run from their pasts and their secrets and both completely unaware that the high school jock and school weirdo have a lot more in common than they ever could have imagined.

I loved Callie, I thought she was the sweetest, most gentle and fragile of a character that I have read in recent times. Wonderfully unaware of just how special a person she is, she prefers to blend into the background in fear that the one secret that has haunted her since her twelfth birthday will come bursting out of her. The only person she has ever confided in,is her best friend Seth, a fantastically flamboyant and outspoken person who adds a touch of humour to the intense tale and has always got a shoulder for Callie to lean on when times get tough.

Kayden is the hero of the story that you instantly fall in love with, brooding, intense, gentle and unashamedly handsome, I found myself smiling at this character a lot. The thing that I have discovered with Jessica’s writing and books, is that she is particularly good at creating male characters, that you can relate to, understand and fall for, through her outspoken dialogue and vivid descriptions of baggy jeans hanging on his hips, the beanie that hides his hair or even the descriptions of Kayden’s arms, I did find myself sighing a lot at this story.

When I initially reviewed ‘The Secret of Ella and Micha’ I likened the story to the American Young Adult drama series ‘My So Called Life’, the intense and troubled young adults battling with new emotions and feelings and in a way I was kind of expecting ‘The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden’ to be the same but I was pleasantly surprised that the story was completely different. Although both series feature young couples battling love and secrets, ‘The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden’ is a much darker and intense story with sweet innocent scenes of friendship and love that had me gripped from the start. As both Callie and Kayden battle their inner demons and try to keep a safe distance from each other so no-one will get hurt, dealing with issues of trust and abuse this story is insightful reading that I couldn’t put down.

Honestly written with refreshing characters and dialogue, ‘The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden’ is an unforgettable story about first love, the first taste of happiness and the first taste of freedom, that has left me eagerly looking forward to the sequel.
