The day Ella has waited for is just around the corner. It’s the day she’ll marry Micha, the love of her life, the light that guided her out of the darkness. It looks like it will be the perfect Christmas, until an unexpected package arrives with a harsh reminder of Ella’s past. Suddenly Ella doesn’t feel as confident about her future. Can she really have a ‘happily-ever-after’ if she’s never even seen one? Micha will stand by Ella no matter what she’s going through, though he worries that she might leave him standing at the altar again. When he’s offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to tour with his favourite bands for three months, Micha knows he can’t leave Ella behind. But can he ask her to uproot her life to join him on the road? Now Ella and Micha must find a way to balance their fears, their dreams, and their love . . . if they ever want to hear wedding bells.
‘The Secret Of Ella And Micha’ was not only the first book from the Ella and Micha series but also the first book that I read by Jessica Sorensen. Reading this dark and angst ridden book brought me back to a time where I too would stare dreamily back at Jordan Catalano and swoon like Angela Chase. That was what I initially compared Jessica’s books to, like an episode of ‘My So Called Life’, complicated and with a broody boy with long hair and most importantly, in a band.
The series has followed the young couple on their journey, the ups and downs as Ella battles with her own mental health and self worth and Micha trying to get somewhere with his music career.
In the concluding book, it begins with the couple on their wedding day, preparing for their future together but Ella has cold feet and panics. So instead of a small wedding ceremony they decide to return to their hometown of where their relationship all began and have their wedding with their families.
Like her previous books, the chapters alternate between Ella and Micha and they are written in Jessica’s honest and outspoken style. With the sudden appearance of her dead mothers journal, Ella has to deal with fears of her own mental health, as she begins to see similarities between herself and her mother and worries that she will turn out the same. Although she is a strong character, her main concern is Micha and worries that her problems will hold him back in life. Whereas Micha is besotted with her and only ever dreamt of being with the girl next door and is there to reassure Ella every time she has a breakdown.
A sweet addition to the story is the inclusion of first meetings between the two when they were children, how their relationship blossomed over the years and where it wrong. I enjoyed this sentimentality of these chapters.
This book is a powerful and intense story, that will have you hooked throughout. Written with raw emotions and dealing with the issues of mental health, ‘The Ever After Of Ella And Micha’ is a sweet ending to the young couples love story.
