The Unpredictable Consequences Of Love By Jill Mansell
[amazon_link id=”0755355911″ target=”_blank” ][/amazon_link]’The Unpredictable Consequences Of Love’ is the latest book by ‘Sunday Times’ bestselling author, Jill Mansell.
When Josh Strachen arrives in St Carys to run the family hotel, he can’t understand why Sophie has zero interest in letting any man into her life. He also can’t understand how he’s been duped into employing Sophie’s impulsive friend Tula, whose crush on him is decidedly unrequited. St Carys has more than its fair share of characters, including the charming bit utterly feckless surfer Riley Bryant, who has a massive crush on Tula. Riley’s aunt is superstar Marguerite Marshall. And Marguerite has designs on Josh’s grandfather – who in turn still adores his glamorous ex-wife Dot. Just how many secrets can one seaside town hold? Love has the ability to change people, sometimes for ever. And the consequences are impossible to predict.
Even though Jill Mansell, is an author who has been around for a while, she is a relatively new writer for me as ‘The Unpredictable Consequences Of Love’ is only the second book I have read by her.
With a vibrant and spring inspired cover, I delved straight into the seaside town, filled with troubled souls and unrequited love. Our leading lady is Sophie, a talented photographer who never lets people particularly men get too close to her, but handsome ex band manager Josh has fallen hard for Sophie and despite his advances being refused, he is determined to find out what happened in her past to make her so reluctant to get close to people. Whilst her good friend Tula has moved to the town, hoping to catch Josh’s eye but it seems local lad about town Riley is interested in her, but he has to prove his worth to Tula before she can even think of dating him. As well as there being young hearts broken, Josh’s grandparents Dot and Lawrence, their hearts are also on tenterhooks as they both consider love for the second time.
Set in a picturesque seaside town, it was easy to be swept away with the sun, sea and sand with the wonderfully likeable and relatable characters, that you could happily envision friendships with. I particularly enjoyed Sophie, a sweet and intriguing character with a kind nature that you instantly felt an empathy for, as you see her troubled nature and need for solitude as she punishes herself for something that was completely out of her control.
‘The Unpredictable Consequences Of Love’ is a lovely lighthearted story and one that I enjoyed immensely, a captivating story from the start which is cleverly written with the many twists and turns that will catch you off guard.
