Hallie has a secret. She’s in love. He’s perfect for her in every way, but he’s seriously out of bounds. And her friends aren’t going to help her because what they do know is that Hallie doesn’t have long to live. Time is running out. Flo has a dilemma. She really likes Zander. But his scary sister won’t be even faintly amused if she thinks Zander and Flo are becoming friends – let alone anything more. Tasha has a problem. Her new boyfriend is the adventurous type. And she’s afraid one of his adventures will go badly wrong. THREE AMAZING THINGS ABOUT YOU begins as Hallie goes on a journey. A donor has been found and she’s about to be given new lungs. But whose?

Jill Mansell was an author that I only started reading a couple of years ago and since then, she has become one of my favourite authors. Her stories are filled with heartwarming characters and an interesting plot that usually deals with a serious issue, that she writes about informatively and sensitively. And in the case of ‘Three Amazing Things About You’ the issue that is tackled is organ donation.

The story is seen from the perspective of three women, all of which are very intriguing and strong characters. Hallie, is a young woman who has spent her life, restricted and confined to a wheelchair with an oxygen tank. A sufferer of cystic fibrosis, she longs and dreads the day that she will receive the call, that her new lungs are ready. She wants a normal life, a boyfriend and no limitations so she finds solace and companionship in her website, Three Amazing Things About You, where she acts as an agony aunt helping others with problems. Flo works in a nursing home and enjoys the company of the older patients until one day, Elsa one of the patients passes away and leaves her flat to Flo, the condition being that she lives in the house, until her cat, Jeremy passes away. This is to the disgust to Lena, Elsa’s spoilt niece who is raging with the will, but it’s Zander, Lena’s brother who has caught Flo’s eye. And finally there is Tasha, a woman who doesn’t believe in romance and always finds a fault in her latest beau until one day she meets Rory. A man who is her polar opposite, content with a spa weekend, Rory enjoys nothing more than extreme sports, much to Tasha’s fear.

The story follows the lives of the three women over the course of a year and shows just how dramatically 365 days can change a persons life. All three women were wonderful and it’s the first time that I’ve read a book in a while where I have enjoyed all the lead characters equally. Hallie was strong and tried not to let her illness control her life, I loved her attitude and with her, I also hoped that the her fantastically good looking doctor Luke, would see her as more than a patient. Flo was a patient woman with a gentle nature and loved by many. She had a lot to deal with, a moody cat and a demanding neighbour. Tasha was deliciously glamorous and it was lovely to see a woman, who wasn’t interested in love, give in so completely.

I loved this book and consumed it in a weekend. With an interesting story that cleverly comes together at the end and most definitely highlights the importance of organ donation, ‘Three Amazing Things About You’ is a beautifully written and emotional story, that will have you reaching for the tissues. Captivating.
