Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by Claudia Carroll
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow is the wonderful latest book from Irish author Claudia Carroll. Although Claudia has been an successful author for a number of years, this was the first book I read by her.
The book tells the story of young couple Annie and Dan, who were teenage sweethearts and later got married at the tender age of 24. To everyone, they appear as the perfect couple, but behind closed doors they are more like acquaintances and Annie wonders where the spark and fun went from their once loving relationship.
It’s hard for the couple, as they had to leave the bustling streets of Dublin, for Dan to take over his deceased father’s failing veterinary business for the quiet countryside of Waterford. Annie gave up her career as an actress and occasionally works in a bookshop which is nearly always empty. As Dan tries to rectify the surgery’s problems working all hours and answering to everyone else’s beck and call whilst Annie quietly blends into background becoming second fiddle to Dan’s work, his demanding mother who’s always around criticising the way the house is run, his younger sister Jules who doesn’t believe in work and sits round, raiding the food cupboards and watching daytime television.
So one day out of the blue, her old agent phones her and tells her to come to Dublin to audition for the smash hit show “Wedding Belles”. Suddenly she has the role of the life time but the only catch is that, the show is heading for Broadway for a year. Determined not to miss out, she goes to New York, excited to be acting but worried about being apart from Dan, will they survive the distance even though their relationship is already on the rocks.
After many failed attempts at trying to stay in touch with each other, they both come to conclusion that they should take a year out on the relationship, no strings attached but will meet twelve months later at the Rockefeller Centre, where Dan had proposed to her all those years ago.
I loved this book from start to finish. There are so many wonderful lines in, that constantly made me smile or laugh out loud. Claudia managed to create such interesting that all seemed to compliment each, like Audrey, Dan’s mother that always had some scathing remark or ailment and Jules, with her words of wisdom to life.
I would highly recomend this book to everyone, who enjoys a funny tale with a dash of love and lots and lots of drama!
