The Love Verb by Jane Green
The Love Verb is a wonderful story of love and being there for loved ones. Steffi loves life and lives it to the max, when she is not head chef at the vegetarian restaurant, Joni’s then she is pondering life and if she will ever settle down with her rock star boyfriend.
Her older sister, Callie has the perfect life with her loving husband and two kids. Everything couldn’t be better after she successfully battled breast cancer five years ago. And finally Lila, Callie’s best friend who had just about given up on finding love, until English gentleman Ed steps into her life with his erratic ex wife Mindy and sweetheart son Clay.
Everything seems perfect for the three friends, finding love and happy families then Steffi moves to rural town of Sleepy Hollow to house sit for Mason, a regular customer at Joni’s who is moving to London. Immediately she falls in love with the old rustic house and settles in, cooking and baking for the local shop. Then Callie is suddenly ill again and life takes a dramatic turn to for the girls as they realise that Callie might be taken away from them and together Lila and Steffi battle to keep her with them for as long as possible.
Whilst on on this journey together, the girls begin to discover new things about themselves and they find out they aren’t necessarily the people they thought they were. A beautifully written story of finding love and friendship that is pure and genuine and tugs at the heartstrings.
The only flaw that I could find with the book and was quite a small thing, was the inclusion of recipes at the end of each chapter, although this was a nice touch, I found it a bit disconcerting. But overall, another lovely read from Jane Green.
